Oral aluminium phosphide poisoning in Indian children.

چکیده
Aluminium phosphide, due to its low cost, easy availability and highly toxic nature, is emerging as a common self-poisoning agent in adults. In children, besides accidental ingestion, it is usually given by their parents who themselves have taken it with suicidal intentions. Seven such cases in children are reported. Since prevention is the only logical approach there is an urgent need to take appropriate steps to prevent further loss of lives.

Intravascular Hemolysis Due to Glucose‐6‐Phosphate Dehydrogenase Deficiency in a Patient with Aluminium Phosphide Poisoning
Aluminium Phosphide poisoning and glucose‐6‐phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency are two commonly seen clinical presentations in Iran. However, hemolysis associated with Aluminium Phosphide poisoning is very rare. We report a case of concurrent Aluminium Phosphide poisoning and glucose‐6‐phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency in a 24 year old man presenting with intravascular hemolysis. Key words...

متن کاملSuccessful treatment of acute aluminium phosphide poisoning: possible benefit of coconut oil.
Aluminium phosphide is used to control rodents and pests in grain storage facilities. It produces phosphine gas, which is a mitochondrial poison. Unfortunately, there is no known antidote for aluminium phosphide intoxication, but our recent experience with a case showed that rapid prevention of absorption by coconut oil might be helpful. In the present case, we used the same protocol in a 28-ye...
متن کاملFatal aluminium phosphide poisoning due to myocardial depression refractory to high dose inotropic support and intra-aortic balloon counterpulsation
We report a case of aluminium phosphide poisoning that presented to us with refractory myocardial depression. This patient developed worsening circulatory failure that did not respond to inotropic or vasopressor support and intra-aortic balloon counterpulsation. She went on to develop progressive metabolic acidosis, renal failure and died within 48 hours of admission to the intensive care unit.
متن کاملNeed for antidote for aluminium phosphide poisoning.
Human toxicity of aluminium phosphide occurs due to the toxic effects of phosphine which is liberated in stomach on ingestion (1). The effect is worse in the presence of hydrochloric acid in the stomach. It is widely absorbed from gastrointestinal tract and has cytotoxic action as it inhibits mitochondrial respiration. It affects almost all systems i.e. gastrointestinal, cardiovascular, respira...
